Sappi is a global diversified woodfibre company focussed on providing dissolving wood pulp, specialities and packaging papers, printing and writing papers, as well as biomaterials and biochemicals to our customer base across more than 150 countries.

The Sappi Group has over 12,500 employees in over 35 countries and manufacturing operations on three continents (ten production facilities in Europe, three in the United States of America and five in South Africa) which produce approximately 5.7 million tonnes per year of paper, 2.3 million tonnes of paper pulp and 1.4 million tons of dissolving wood pulp.

Traditionally the papermaking process has only used approximately half of the raw wood material to manufacture pulp and paper products. The balance of the raw material is used to generate energy to power the mill or to sell into the electricity grid. Sappi is, however, developing new process and biomaterials which extract more value from each tree and supports our business strategy to move into new and adjacent markets. Sappi Biotech UK Ltd is an R&D centre at Wilton developing new biorefinery technologies to produce high value products from hemicellulose sugars and lignins to be deployed across our manufacturing operations around the globe.
