SurePulse: Revolutionising Neonatal Care

James Carpenter Ph.D., CEO of SurePulse and a father of three, knows the importance of immediate newborn care. That’s why SurePulse – a graduate of Pioneer Group’s business support programme based within our MedTech community at MediCity Nottingham – is developing cutting-edge tools to provide optimal newborn care for clinicians, healthcare providers, and parents.

SurePulse was formed after researchers realised that vital sign technology being developed within the University of Nottingham could be applied to monitor newborn babies who need help at birth. Current approaches are insufficiently accurate, reliable or timely, which can lead to deviations from international protocols for delivery room care.

James explains: “Our aim at SurePulse is to not only to revolutionise neonatal vital signs monitoring and give clinicians and healthcare providers the tools to provide optimal newborn care, but to also design our devices in such a way that it will benefit parents as well. We have the opportunity to make a difference right from the very first moments of someone’s life, and to make an impact across their whole life.”

Empowering Healthcare Startups To Evolve

James continues: “At MediCity, we’re shoulder to shoulder with like-minded companies, and it’s been a really great environment to grow, adapt and scale. MediCity has always been really incredibly flexible, allowing us to add rooms and takeaway rooms as our needs have evolved.

“We’ve been on the Pioneer Group Investment Readiness Program, which has enabled us to refine our investment pitch, practice in front of investment professionals, and ultimately successfully raise funds over the last couple of years. We’re now on the cusp of commercialisation and making an impact on real patients’ lives.”
