Golden Ticket Partnership

AbbVie

AbbVie wanted targeted access to the UK’s most promising early-stage biotech companies, on a national scale. Through a Golden Ticket competition run with Pioneer, 52 companies applied and 5 were shortlisted for a pitching event. AbbVie selected Alceus Bio, a University of Cambridge spin-out founded in 2024 and developing synthetic CAR T-cell therapies for solid tumours, as the 2025 winner.

Through the partnership, Alceus Bio receives grant funding from AbbVie, 12 months of rent-free incubation space at a Pioneer site, and direct access to both AbbVie’s scientific and business expertise alongside Pioneer’s venture building and investment teams.

For AbbVie, the Golden Ticket is a structured route into the standout science coming out of UK universities, years before it might otherwise reach them. For the wider ecosystem, it is proof that early, high-risk research can find the capital, space and expertise to grow in the UK rather than elsewhere.
