The Regional Accelerator Programmes are a six-week initiative designed to support early-stage companies in testing key assumptions, deepening customer understanding and strengthening commercial readiness.

Tailored to regional strengths and innovation ecosystems, the programme combines core accelerator content with locally delivered support. It prepares high-potential ventures for progression into Pioneer’s wider accelerator portfolio and future national-level opportunities.

What You’ll Have Access To

  • Top performers, selected through the final pitch day, will be invited to apply for upcoming National Accelerator Programmes, unlocking a further 8-weeks of follow on support

Regional

Six Week Programme

The entry point to Pioneer Group’s Venture Building activity; the Regional Accelerator’s support early-stage companies test assumptions, refine customer understanding and build commercial readiness. Tailored to regional strengths and ecosystems, it combines core accelerator content with local support, preparing high-potential ventures for Pioneer’s wider, national-level opportunities.

Pre-Accelerator

2.5 day Workshop

During the Pre-Accelerator Workshop, you’ll be introduced to proven entrepreneurial methods that de-risk the commercial viability of life sciences start-ups. Then, over a four-week period, you’ll use these tools and techniques to undertake rigorous customer discovery, which will test key assumptions about your idea and value proposition.

Eight week Programme

Work one-to-one with a dedicated coach and attend weekly sessions to develop your idea into a minimum viable product with a clear route to market. You’ll meet esteemed figures from the life sciences industry who will offer advice and guidance on investment, market adoption and scale-up as part of Pioneer Group’s Expert Network.

Launch

12 month Programme

Offered to promising ventures to carry out commercial and technical de-risking and facilitate seed and series A investment. As an invited company, you will have access to discounted bio-incubation space at a selected Pioneer Group location, continued access to the expert network and the opportunity for pre-seed investment.

Investment

Pre-seed to series A

For selected early-stage ventures, we provide initial investment and participate in follow on rounds, with support and guidance from the Pioneer Group investment team. Post-investment, we will provide you with ongoing mentorship, including managing investor relationships and introductions to corporate partners.

The Cambridge Regional Accelerator Programme runs over 6-weeks, beginning September 2026. Designed to support 5 pre-seed companies, with a particular focus on assumption testing and rigorous customer discovery as a process of de-risking early-stage opportunities.

With regard to the 2025 launch of the UK government’s Industrial Strategy, we are interested in founders tackling human/planetary health needs with the following types of technologies:

  • Advanced Manufacturing – Advanced materials, Agritech
  • Clean Energy Industries – Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) and Greenhouse Gase Removal (GGR)
  • Digital and Technologies (AI, Engineering Biology, Quantum)
  • Life Sciences – BioPharma, MedTech

Cardiff

Funded by Pioneer, in association with Welsh Government

The Cardiff Regional Accelerator Programme runs over 6-weeks, beginning September 2026. Designed to support 5 pre-seed companies, with a particular focus on assumption testing and rigorous customer discovery as a process of de-risking early-stage opportunities.

Pioneer has a proven track record of supporting ambitious founders tackling big unmet needs across human and planetary health.

This programme is technology agnostic and welcomes innovations across MedTech, Therapeutics, Digital Health and Enabling Technologies, with a particular interest in innovations focused on genomics and precision medicine, however, applications from all relevant areas of life sciences and healthcare are encouraged.
